More than 20 aftershocks occurred off the coast of New Zealand

More than 20 aftershocks with a magnitude of more than 5.0 occurred in the Pacific Ocean off the New Zealand archipelago of Kermadec, follows data from the U.S. Geological Survey.
Earlier, a series of four powerful earthquakes were registered in the region, the magnitude of the last one was 8.1.
Thousands of people were evacuated on the east coast of New Zealand’s North Island due to the threat of a tsunami. A few hours later, residents were allowed to return home.
According to seismologists from the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, the kingdom of Tonga recorded its first tsunami since the disaster, with waves of 0.03 meters high.
