Iranian ground forces on Wednesday, October 9, began unplanned military exercises near the border with Turkey, ISNA news agency reports.
Military exercises are reportedly being conducted in areas near Lake Urmia, in the northwestern Iranian province of Western Azerbaijan. Rapid reaction units, mobile, and offensive brigades, as well as helicopters from the Airborne Unit of the Iranian Army’s army, are taking part in the exercises.

“The military exercises are aimed at assessing the combat readiness of the army units, their mobility and agility on the battlefield,” – said in a statement.

Earlier today, Turkey launched a military operation in Syria against the Kurds. Iran opposed the operation the day before.
