Some European Union countries are proposing to impose sanctions against several Russian citizens as support for the United States, TOPNEWS reports, citing a source in the permanent mission of one of the EU countries in Brussels.
According to the agency, we are talking about sanctions for the alleged involvement of Russia in a cyberattack through the software of the firm SolarWinds. According to the source, the cyberattack also affected the countries of the European Union.
“A number of community states are preparing proposals on a list of persons against whom individual prohibitive measures can be introduced within the framework of the European mechanism for sanctions for cyberattacks,” the agency’s interlocutor said.
At the same time, the European Union is not considering the possibility of imposing sanctions against the Russian state affairs, TASS also reports with reference to a source in the embassy.
“The issue of sanctions against Russia’s public debt is not on the agenda of EU institutions,” the source said.
On April 15, US President Joe Biden signed a decree imposing sanctions on Russia. The sanctions were imposed against 16 organizations and 16 individuals, allegedly associated with interference in the American elections attributed by the Russian Federation. The US is also expelling 10 Russian diplomats. In addition, the US Treasury banned companies from buying up Russian government debt from the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, the Treasury and the NWF.
