Amazon bans seed shipments: U.S. fears strange parcels from China

Amazon has notified its overseas partners that U.S. seed imports have been banned since September 3. In addition, as the Wall Street Journal writes, non-residents are prohibited from selling seeds inside the United States.

“We only allow the sale of seeds to sellers who are in the United States. Sellers who do not comply with the new rules are at risk of deleting their accounts from the site,” the company’s representative quotes the publication as saying.
Earlier, Americans from 22 states began receiving mysterious parcels with bags of seeds that they did not order. Most of the parcels came, presumably, from China. Local authorities urged Americans not to plant these seeds because they could pose a threat to native plants or cause disease in livestock. The Ministry of Agriculture said it planned to carry out a seed analysis.
