The U.S. Air Force is investigating an incident with a 419th flight test squadron from Edwards base in California. For unknown reasons, a hypersonic missile accidentally detached from the plane during testing.
According to Aviation Week, the missile was unintentionally separated from the B-52 during flight tests.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
This hypersonic missile is being developed as part of a program led by the Air Force and the Department of Defense’s promising research projects. According to preliminary data, the incident occurred during test flights over the land, rather than the Pacific training ground. After an unsuccessful launch, the rocket was destroyed.
