Australian actor Arthur Dignam died of a heart attack at the age of 80, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.
Dignam is known for the films of the Australian director Baz Lurmann. He played Father Benedict in Australia, the father of the main character in Moulin Rouge, and also starred in The Great Gatsby.
Among other roles of the actor in the cinema: “Duelists”, “Wild Duck”, “Oscar and Lucinda”, “Under the Clouds”, “They were exchanged for bodies”, “The Devil’s Refuge”, “Tree”, etc.
Dignam also worked on television and in the theater. He played Pontius Pilate in the Australian version of the musical “Jesus Christ is a Superstar” in 1972–73 and participated in a television recording of the production.
Signam’s son Nicholas Gledhill also became an actor.
