Passenger train partially derailed near Taroko Gorge
In Taiwan, a passenger train collided with a car and partially derailed, killing at least 41 people and injuring dozens.
The surviving passengers climbed out of the windows and onto the roof to escape. This is the worst train disaster on the island in decades.
The disaster took place near the picturesque Taroko Gorge at about 9 am on Friday.
In Taiwan, this day is a public holiday. Hualien County officials said rescue efforts were ongoing.
According to media reports, there were 350 passengers on board.
