Ten skiers were caught in an avalanche at the ski resort of Verbier in Switzerland, one of them, a British citizen, died, according to police in the canton of Valais.
“On Monday, January 18, 2021, an avalanche over Verbier took ten skiers off the slopes. One person died and another was injured. The other skiers were not injured,” the police said in a statement.
It is reported that the avalanche fell outside the ski trail, rescuers rescued the skiers buried under the snow.
According to the department, a British citizen was killed in an avalanche, another man was taken to hospital with serious injuries. The local prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation into the incident.
The Vale police also reported the death of a Swedish citizen who had fallen from a high ledge. Rescuers found the injured man on Saturday and he was taken to a hospital but died there.
