The head of the Belarusian defense ministry Viktor Khrenin said during a closed meeting with the heads of the security forces that if the army is forced to open fire on the protesters, it will do so. This is reported by the portal “Nasha Niva.”
According to the Belarusian defense minister, supporters of former presidential candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya are wondering whether the army will take the side of the people. Soldiers are persuaded not to follow “criminal orders.” That is, in fact, the military is called for the violation of the oath.
In the current situation, the army is a sentry that must stop the movement of the intruder. First, you need to make a warning shot up, but if it does not help, we will have to shoot to kill. And we’re going to do it.
Earlier, Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, who is based in Lithuania, announced the creation of a Coordinating Council for the transfer of power. This body includes democratically-minded economists, lawyers, doctors, cultural figures, and other representatives of the civil society of Belarus. According to Tikhanovskaya, the Coordinating Council does not set itself the goal of forcibly seizing power.
