The Korean biathlete Timofei Lapshin faced disqualification for using a banned drug. This is reported on the website of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
Lapshin was punished for a violation eight years ago when the athlete was still representing Russia in international competitions. CAS found that the biathlete had no intention to violate anti-doping rules, the prohibited substance was contained in the nasal spray used by Lapshin.
Lapshin is suspended from participation in competitions for one year. The date of his suspension started on April 23. CAS also took into account the temporary suspension, which began on September 23 last year.
In May 2018, Lapshin said he did not see himself as part of the Russian national team and ruled out a return to playing for his native country. He has been a citizen of South Korea since 2017. As a member of the Russian national team, the biathlete twice won the World Cup.
