Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the forum will be held in a virtual format
President Joe Biden has been invited to speak virtually at the annual Munich Security Conference on Feb. 19, and the president plans to do so, diplomatic sources said Thursday.
The speech would be President Biden’s first address to a German audience since taking office.
“The president is scheduled to attend (the conference),” the source explained.
Biden attended the Munich Security Conference in 2009 and 2015 as U.S. vice president and met with German Chancellor Angela Merkel at the forum.
The Munich Security Conference, sometimes called the “Defense Davos,” is one of the main instruments of transatlantic dialogue on defense and foreign policy issues. Angela Merkel promised the new U.S. president to increase her country’s participation in the transatlantic community’s foreign policy events.
