White House press secretary Jen Psaki said during a briefing
President Joe Biden will consider all options to respond to the Russian authorities’ arrest of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said Monday.
Last Saturday, Russian police detained over 3,700 people and used force against protesters in many Russian cities. The protesters, who took to the streets despite the bitter cold and police warnings, demanded the release of Navalny, who has been detained for 30 days on probation charges.
Navalny believes this charge is untenable.
The Biden administration called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to immediately release Navalny and those who support him.
