The compromise decision of the authorities in Texas on energy policy led to the collapse and the deaths of people, said the founder of Microsoft, entrepreneur Bill Gates.
Reacting to Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s claim that the massive power outage was caused by the freezing of wind turbines, the billionaire said that such a claim is incorrect because the U.S. is not sufficiently dependent on renewable energy sources.
“These are natural gas-fired power plants that were not weatherproof. They could be. It costs money, and a compromise was made, but it didn’t work, and it’s tragic that it led to the loss of life,” Gates told CNN.
The U.S. has literally been gripped by abnormally cold temperatures this past week, overshadowed by heavy snowfalls. Earlier it was reported that about 300 thousand residents of Texas lost power due to bad weather. More than 30 people were killed in the country because of the established frosts.
