Borrell told about the reaction of EU foreign ministers to his visit to Moscow

. The Council of European Union foreign ministers at Monday’s meeting did not criticize EU diplomatic chief Josep Borrel for his visit to Moscow, Borrel himself said at a press conference after the council.
“There was no criticism today,” he said.
Borrel’s visit to Moscow took place Feb. 4-6. While in Russia, Borrel met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov as well as with representatives of Russian NGOs. In Moscow Borrel stated that there are spheres in which Russia and the EU can and must cooperate as in this case good results will be achieved and he is for the dialogue with Moscow despite the difficulties in the relations.
However, Borrell then had to justify his visit to Russia to the European Parliament. At the hearing, EP deputies condemned the visit, calling it a manifestation of weakness in European diplomacy, and also criticized statements made by Borrell at a joint press conference with Lavrov.
