The candidate for the post of the head of the Pentagon told how to contain Russia in Europe

A comprehensive strategy involving various U.S. departments and agencies, allies, and the private sector is needed to deter Russia, Pentagon nominee Lloyd Austin said.
“The Russian threat continues to evolve in a direction that combines ‘hard’ and ‘soft’ force through the use of hybrid tactics. Operations involving such tactics are multi-layered and complex, and they seek to build Russian influence around the world,” Austin said in testimony to Congress.
“Effectively confronting Russian influence in Europe requires a comprehensive approach that includes our allies and partners, other U.S. government agencies and departments, and the private sector,” he added.
According to Austin, “on many aspects of the hybrid military strategy, the Defense Department cannot succeed without a unified, integrated effort” by partners in other agencies and allies, especially in “diplomacy, (weapons) development, law enforcement, and information and intelligence.”
Russia has repeatedly denied U.S. accusations of aggressive behavior in Europe in the past.
