New President: Joe Biden takes office as U.S. head of state

U.S. President-elect Joe Biden is looking to extend the START-3 treaty with Russia, U.S. Secretary of State nominee Anthony Blinken said at a Senate hearing.
He said the deadline on the START-3 extension will come very soon, an issue the new administration will come to lawmakers with almost as soon as Biden takes office.
“I know he’s paying attention to looking for an extension,” Blinken said.
He would not answer a question about how long the treaty might be extended, saying that decision is up to the president-elect.
