Challenger for President of Belarus charged
Viktor Babariko and his son Eduard have chosen a preventive measure in the form of detention, the politician reported on Twitter
. Charges were brought against the detainee in the criminal case of Belgazprombank of the candidate for the post of President of Belarus Viktor Babariko and his son Eduard, who heads the campaign headquarters of the politician. This was announced on Sunday on Twitter by Viktor Babariko himself.
“Victor and Eduard were charged and a preventive measure in the form of detention was taken. The decision on the choice of a preventive measure will be appealed,” the statement said.

Before deciding to run for president of Belarus, Babariko was the head of Belgazprombank, a subsidiary of Russian Gazprombank, for 20 years. On June 11, the financial investigations department of the State Control Committee (KGC) of the republic, after a search in Belgazprombank, opened a criminal case under part 2 of article 243 (“Tax evasion on a large scale”) and part 2 of article 235 (“Legalization of proceeds from crime on a particularly large scale “). Babariko then said that the situation around the lending institution was ordered political in nature.
On June 18, KGC reported that Babariko was detained due to the fact that he was the direct organizer who led the illegal activities. Together with Viktor, his son Eduard was escorted to the KGB jail.
In total, about 20 people were arrested in the case of Belgazprombank.
