Some channels of the increasingly popular messenger in the U.S. have been censored, according to media reports.
American media claim that the Telegram messenger administration has blocked at least 15 extremist channels. Such data on Thursday, January 14, NBC TV channel reports. It is alleged that in addition to channels, chats associated with them were also blocked.
It is noted that some other materials were censored.
The channel recalls that Telegram recently faced a significant influx of new users, including radical supporters of US President Donald Trump.
Trumpists, as the TV channel explains, did so in an attempt to “save themselves from purges” on other Internet resources, but the messenger, according to the media, also began deleting extremist materials.
Recall that the number of active Telegram users exceeded 500 million at the beginning of 2021 and continues to grow rapidly. On January 12, it became known that just in three days the number of users of the messenger has grown by 25 million.
Telegram began to grow in popularity after the blocking of the account of U.S. President Donald Trump on Twitter and the removal of the social network Parler from the App Store and Google Play, which was used by his supporters.
It is worth noting that amid the growth of Telegram users in the network there was information about the possible removal of the social network from the App Store and Google Play.
