Residents of Chile celebrated a cat’s birthday during a pandemic and contracted the coronavirus. This was reported by the New York Post on Friday, January 22.

Ten people attended the party in the city of Valparaiso and were tested positive for the coronavirus. COVID-19 was also diagnosed in five other people – relatives of the cat’s owner. The condition of some patients was assessed as severe and they were hospitalized. At the same time, the cat itself was not infected.

The regional secretary of the Ministry of Health, Francisco Alvarez, confirmed information about the incident.

“When I heard it was the cat’s birthday, I thought it was a joke,” he said. – That they were probably trying to hide something, but they were. Six out of the fifteen people infected confirmed they were infected at the birthday party.”

The official called what happened an “unthinkable” example of irresponsible behavior by citizens.

Recall that scientists have found that in the animal world the most susceptible to the pandemic coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 are ferrets and, to a lesser extent, cats, civets, and dogs.
