China imposed sanctions on 28 Trump administration officials

The White House called Beijing’s decision “unproductive and cynical.

The Chinese government imposed sanctions on former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, former national security adviser Robert O’Brien and 26 other members of Donald Trump’s administration.

This came after Joe Biden was sworn in as the 46th president of the United States.

China’s Foreign Ministry said these individuals “insulted the Chinese people and seriously damaged Sino-American relations.”

“These individuals and their immediate family members are banned from entering mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau. They, as well as companies and institutions associated with them, are also prohibited from doing business with China,” the foreign ministry said in a statement.

A spokeswoman for President Joe Biden’s National Security Council called China’s sanctions against former Donald Trump administration officials “unproductive and cynical.”
