Conflict with Armenia: 23 thousand Azerbaijanis enlisted in the army

In connection with the latest exacerbations on the border, a surge of patriotism is observed in Azerbaijan.
Against the background of the aggravation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict, more than 23 thousand citizens of Azerbaijan expressed their desire to voluntarily join the ranks of the armed forces. The department for conscription and mobilization reported to Interfax.

“In Azerbaijan, over 23.5 thousand citizens expressed a desire to voluntarily serve in the army, applied to the State Service for mobilization and conscription electronically, as well as to local administrations, departments, and divisions of the service, and were registered in the appropriate form,” – reported in the department.

As of 2016, there were 67 thousand people in the armed forces of Azerbaijan. There is conscription in the country, which is one and a half years for people without higher education and a year for those who have already graduated from university.

In connection with the latest exacerbations in Azerbaijan, there is a surge of patriotism. On the night of July 15, about 50,000 residents of Baku took to the square to rally in support of the armed forces, demanding to start a war with Armenia. They chanted: “Commander-in-Chief, announce mobilization.”
