Infection with coronavirus was detected in a woman in northern Macedonia who came from Italy.
The first case of coronavirus was confirmed in the Balkan Peninsula – in northern Macedonia. This was announced on Wednesday, February 26, by the country’s Health Minister Venkov Filipce, Reuters reports. This is the first patient in Northern Macedonia to test for this pathogen,” he said.

He said the woman, who contracted the virus, sought medical attention on Wednesday. She recently traveled from Italy to Northern Macedonia in a minivan. Other passengers in the car are also tested for coronavirus. The nationality of the patient is not specified.

At the same time, Lithuania has declared a national emergency due to the threat of the spread of the new coronavirus.

This status, as noted in the government of the country, makes it possible to coordinate preventive measures more effectively, to organize more effective work of responsible authorities, to use simplified procedures to obtain funds of the state medical reserve.

About 800 people who have visited China or regions of Italy where cases of coronavirus infection have been reported in Lithuania under the control of doctors. Upon arrival in Lithuania, they undergo a primary health check at airports, they are interviewed, asked to leave contact details and instructed to take further action.

According to the WHO, the number of cases of coronavirus exceeded the corresponding figure in China over the past 24 hours.

In total, the number of people infected with coronavirus in the world exceeded 81,000 people, the death toll was recorded in more than 2.7 thousand cases.
