Eight people killed in massage parlors in Atlanta

21-year-old suspect arrested

Eight people were shot dead in three Atlanta massage parlors on Tuesday evening, authorities said.

The killings raised fears that the crimes could be directed against people of Asian descent.

Law enforcement officials said six of those killed were Asian and two were white. All but one were women.

The search resulted in the arrest of the suspect in Crisp County, about 240 kilometers south of Atlanta. He is identified as a 21-year-old from Woodstock, Georgia, Robert Aaron Long.

The motives for the murders are not known. The suspect in custody is white, and it is not yet clear if the crime is racially related.

President Biden was informed about the incident. “The President … has been informed of the horrific shooting in Atlanta. White House officials are in contact with the mayor’s office and will continue to be in contact with the FBI, ”said White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki.

“Later in the morning, the President will receive a telephone briefing from Attorney General Merrick Garland and FBI Director Christopher Ray,” the spokeswoman also said.
