Ex-presidential candidate of Belarus accused of preparing a terrorist attack

The General Prosecutor’s Office of Belarus opened a criminal case against ex-presidential candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya for preparing an act of terrorism. This was announced today, on March 29, by the Prosecutor General of the Republic Andrei Shved.

“The General Prosecutor’s Office, on the basis of materials submitted by the State Security Committee and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, initiated a criminal case against Tikhanovskaya and the participants of the so-called BYPOL initiative for the preparation of an act of terrorism by an organized group under Art. 289 of the Criminal Code. A few days ago these persons tried to carry out explosions and arson on the territory of the capital and other cities. Detained red-handed citizen Maleichuk (Vyacheslav Maleichuk was detained earlier for preparing a terrorist attack – EADaily) has already testified about the organizers and participants of the terrorist attack, ”he said.
According to Shved, it also follows from the materials of the check that the organizers’ plans included accusing the representatives of state authorities of committing actions that create the danger of death of people.

Recall that Svetlana Tikhanovskaya lost the presidential elections, which were held in Belarus on August 9, 2020. She fled the country and calls on her supporters to protest. In response, the republican authorities accused Tikhanovskaya and her team of attempting to organize a coup d’etat and create an extremist organization.
