The critically ill patient at Prague’s Naulovce Specialized Hospital with the new coronavirus was given on Tuesday an experimental medicine called Remdesivir, which was specially ordered for him in the United States, where it is also being tested as a drug against coronavirus, Czech Health Minister Adam Vojtech told reporters. “The patient has already started giving this medicine on Tuesday. Let’s hope it helps in treating the disease,” the minister said, adding that this patient is connected to equipment that provides blood circulation through the external circuit, outside the patient’s body.
The medicine was provided to Czech doctors by the pharmaceutical company Gilead Sciences, a direct manufacturer of the drug. According to Czech TV, the team of researchers who are involved in the development and testing of Remdesivir in this company is led by Czech Tomas Ziglarge.
