Military launches investigation
Military officials have confirmed the loss of explosives from a Marine Corps base in the Southern California desert.
Jeff Houston of the Navy’s Criminal Investigative Service said an investigation has begun into the disappearance of explosives from the Marine Corps’ Twentynine Palms Air and Ground Combat Center.
Houston said he could not provide additional details because of the investigation.
He also declined to specify what explosives were missing and when it allegedly happened.
Base officials also declined to comment.
Thousands of Marines from various units have participated in the exercise at the base since Jan. 15. The exercise is scheduled to end on Feb. 18
