Norwegian police stopped a truck driver in Tromsø twice in one hour for refusing to use snow chains, for which he was fined 11,000 kroner (more than a thousand euros) and expelled from the country for two years, TV2 reported.
“Police officers twice in an hour left the foreign driver, who was driving a truck not equipped with snow chains, and refused to comply with the law enforcement officers’ request,” the TV2 reported.
It is noted that everything happened in the city of Tromsø, above the Arctic Circle, where the use of snow chains for heavy trucks is a mandatory requirement, and their absence is a factor of risk for road traffic. The police reported this to the driver and demanded that he put the chains on his wheels, but the driver did not do so.
“The driver was fined 11,000 crowns. In addition, the police decided to open a case for expulsion from the country. The Department of Alien Affairs granted a two-year entry ban for the driver,” the broadcaster explained. The truck driver, escorted by police, left Norway. The nationality of the driver was not named.
