Former ECB chief Draghi agrees to head new Italian government

The former head of the European Central Bank (ECB), Mario Draghi, has agreed to head Italy’s new government, the press service of the presidential Quirinale Palace reported.

“President Sergio Mattarella this evening received Professor Mario Draghi, who has agreed to form a new government and presented the president with proposals for ministerial appointments,” the statement said.

According to the government composition announced by Draghi, his post was retained by Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio, reports Reuters.

Italy’s previous prime minister, Giuseppe Conte, tendered his resignation on Jan. 26.
