Germany regretted the sanctions against Russia

Former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder called on the German authorities to lift sanctions against Russia. In an interview with Der Tagesspiegel, the politician said that the Germans should not forget about their guilt before the peoples of Russia. Schroeder recalled the goal of the Nazis during the Great Patriotic war.
“We must always be aware that this war was also an attempt to exterminate or enslave the peoples of the former Soviet Union. It was a brutal extermination campaign aimed at removing Russia from the world political scene. We must never forget this…”, he said.
According to the politician, years of sanctions convincingly prove that they are meaningless and are not able to affect Moscow. During the same period of the coronavirus crisis, they become simply harmful.

“We should appreciate the fact that Russia, despite our terrible past, is ready to work with the new Germany in a spirit of trust. We are not suited to a policy in which we continue to support sanctions against Russia. On the one hand, this evokes certain historical memories in Russia, and on the other hand, it is not able to change Russian politics. Especially now, when we are going through difficult economic times due to the crown crisis, and we need more cooperation. Therefore, senseless sanctions should go away, ” Schroeder believes.
He also noted that any politician who believes that sanctions can be used to force Russia to do something is wrong.
“No Russian President will ever return Crimea to Ukraine. This is reality, ” he said.
Gerhard Schroeder also predicted the peaceful existence of the republics of Donbas and Kyiv. But peace will come only when Ukraine becomes a Federal state, and the Donbas” gets more autonomy»
