Hagia Sophia officially opened to visitors

There are at least 200-300 people in the mosque today, dozens of them praying on the carpets laid in the cathedral.

Hagia Sophia in Istanbul on July 24 officially opened its doors to both those wishing to worship in the mosque and for tourists.

It is noted that all the interior decoration, including the frescoes and icons, has been completely preserved. Today they are still hidden from the eyes of visitors with curtains.

At the moment, there are at least 200-300 people in the mosque, dozens are praying on the carpets laid in the cathedral.

As reported, the opening ceremony of the Hagia Sophia in the status of a mosque is taking place in Istanbul on July 24. President of the country Recep Erdogan is also present at the event.

We will remind, recently the President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan issued a decree which officially granted the status of a mosque to the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul.
