The Spanish army chief of staff, General Miguel Angel Villarroya, has resigned amid a scandal over the coronavirus vaccination and accusations of abuse of office, RBC reported, citing El Mundo.
He was accused of vaccinating himself and other high-ranking military officers against the coronavirus outside the established order. After that, a wave of criticism from the public passed in the direction of the military commanders.
As a result, Villarroya tendered his resignation to Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles, stating that he had not taken advantage of his position but had “followed established protocols.”
Robles accepted the resignation, but the change of leadership will take place later when the Spanish Council of Ministers meets on the issue.
