On March 20, Iranian and Turkic peoples celebrate the arrival of spring according to the solar calendar
The State Department website on Saturday morning posted Secretary of State Anthony Blinken’s congratulations on Nowruz, the Iranian and Turkic peoples’ celebration of the arrival of spring according to the astronomical solar calendar.
The Secretary of State extended his best wishes for the celebration of Nowruz to all the people who celebrate this solemn occasion, from those in Iran and the Middle East to members of various ethnic and religious communities in Europe, the Caucasus, Central and South Asia, and both Americas.
“Nowruz, the first day of spring, is a time to gather with family and friends, enjoy foods and treats that represent the sweetness of life, and reflect on the past year, awaiting blessings for the future. Not being able to spend time with loved ones is just one of the many challenges we all face as a result of the pandemic. May the spirit of rebirth and renewal inherent in Nowruz lead us all to better days,” the greeting said.
