House Speaker Nancy Pelosi apparently believes she is the supreme law of the land and can do whatever she wants.
After wasting millions of taxpayer dollars on the bogus impeachment witch hunt into President Donald Trump, Pelosi is now trying to defy a ruling from the Supreme Court.
Pelosi is refusing to accept a SCOTUS ruling and revealed that the Democratic-controlled House will vote on a bill to repeal Trump’s travel ban.
Last year, the Supreme Court ruled that the president had the legal authority to operate the travel ban, which bars citizens of certain countries with high rates of extremist violence from entering the U.S. on national security grounds.
Pelosi said the Judiciary Committee will take up the “National origin-based Antidiscrimination for Nonimmigrants or NO BAN Act,” written by California Democratic Rep. Judy Chu.
“House Democrats continue to stand opposed to President Trump’s cruel, un-American travel ban in all of its iterations,” Pelosi said in a statement, adding that the bill will “prohibit religious discrimination in our immigration system and limit the President’s ability to impose such biased and bigoted restrictions.”
“It is essential that we take away the president’s power to put prejudice into policy,” Chu said at a news conference announcing the bill.
Pelosi’s announcement comes days after the Trump administration revealed it’s considering adding 7 additional counties to the travel ban.
The administration is considering adding Belarus, Myanmar, Eritrea, Kyrgyzstan, Nigeria, Sudan, and Tanzania.
he Trump administration has argued that its travel restrictions are essential to national security, due to countries named on the list not adequately vetting travelers to the U.S.
The first travel ban currently in effect and upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court restricts U.S. entry to some citizens in Iran, Libya, Somalia, Syria and Yemen, Venezuela, and North Korea.
Several lefty groups like the American Civil Liberties Union and others have filed legal challenges to the travel ban, but have been unsuccessful.
The Supreme Court has made it clear the president of the United States can legally restrict immigration for national security purposes, which is what Trump has been doing.
In a 5-4 ruling, the nation’s highest court ruled that Trump’s immigration restrictions fell “squarely” within the president’s authority.
The court rejected claims that the ban was motivated by religious discrimination and held that the president had the legal right to protect the nation from potential national security issues.
Trump vowed to keep the nation safe, and many would agree he has done that since taking office.
This is also more proof that Pelosi and the Democratic Party are not looking out for American citizens.
