The helium-oxygen mixture can be used as an alternative to artificial lung ventilation in the treatment of serious patients with coronavirus. This conclusion, according to RIA “Novosti”, scientists came to the conclusion after testing the system in a hospital in Komi.
According to Valery Chereshnev, the president of the Russian Scientific Society of Immunologists, scientific director of the Institute of Immunology and Physiology of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, only one out of 50 people was connected to a ventilator during the testing.
“We had 50 people. All of them survived out of 50; they were seriously ill. Only one of them was transferred to a ventilator … The experience of detention at the Republican Hospital in Syktyvkar gave a positive (result), now production is underway,” Chereshnev said.
He noted that artificial ventilation is quite a heavy burden on the body. Against the background of developing pneumonia at COVID-19, when the respiratory surface decreases sharply, helium-oxygen mixture heated to 90-95 degrees is much higher than artificial ventilation of the lungs.
According to him, microbiologists decided to improve the devices that were originally used for such inhalations and to make separate systems of inhaled and exhaled air.
