Iran plans to open next month a regular shipping line from its port of Bandar Abbas to the Syrian sea harbor of Latakia on the Mediterranean coast, the Mehr News Agency reported today, Feb. 20.
The new route aims to support the Islamic Republic’s exports to its friendly Arab country. According to the information, the first cargo will be shipped on March 10.
The Iranian National Shipping Company (IRISL) seeks to strengthen the country’s exports at a time of ongoing Western sanctions against both Tehran and Damascus.
“If the shipping line is supported by business owners, up to two shipments per month will be possible,” IRISL noted.
