Iran protested to Russia after naming the Persian Gulf

The Iranian authorities sent a note of protest to the Russian side in connection with the name of the Persian Gulf.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh noted that the note was sent to the Russian Foreign Ministry through the Iranian Embassy in Moscow.
The document says the protest is related to a Russian Arab-language agency’s Twitter post that referred to the gulf as “the Arabian Gulf.”
Historically, the gulf between the Iranian Plateau and the Arabian Peninsula is called the Persian Gulf. However, some Arab countries disputed this fact in the 1960s. They proposed changing the name to “Arabian Gulf” or simply “Gulf,” which caused discontent on the part of Iran.
