MV Saviz is believed to be the base of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps
An Iranian cargo ship believed to be the base of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps came under attack while anchored off the coast of Yemen, Tehran acknowledged on Wednesday.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry has confirmed the attack on the MV Saviz.
“Fortunately, there have been no reports of casualties and technical investigations are underway,” said Foreign Ministry spokesman Said Khatibzade. “Our country will take all necessary measures through international bodies.”
The long-term presence of the ship in the region, which drew repeated criticism from Saudi Arabia, took place against the backdrop of statements by the West and UN experts that Iran supplied weapons and supported the Yemeni Houthi rebels in the context of many years of war in that country.
Iran denies supplying the Houthis with weapons.
