“Hezbollah owns a secret weapons depot in Lebanon that could have caused another bombing in Beirut, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told the 75th session of the UN General Assembly.
“We all saw a terrible explosion in the port of Beirut last month. 200 people died, thousands were injured and a quarter of a million was homeless. Another explosion could have occurred here, in the Beirut Jnakh quarter near the international airport. This is where Hezbollah has a secret weapons depot. That’s 50 meters from the gas company,” Netanyahu said, whose speech was in the form of a video message.
“I appeal to the people of Jnah, you should act now, you should protest against it. If it explodes, there will be another tragedy,” Netanyahu added. He noted that Israel, unlike Iran and Hezbollah, does not intend to harm the residents of Lebanon.
“The international community should insist that Hezbollah stops using Lebanon and the residents of Lebanon as human shields,” said the head of the Israeli government.
A powerful explosion occurred near the port of Beirut on August 4. Hundreds of houses and cars were destroyed or damaged, glass was broken down in many parts of the Lebanese capital, and some buildings were completely destroyed. According to authorities, the cause was the detonation of 2750 tons of ammonium nitrate, confiscated by customs services in 2014, and stored in a warehouse. 190 people were killed and more than 6 thousand were injured. The capital of Lebanon was recognized as a disaster area, a state of emergency was introduced in the city until September 19.
