Japanese FM to make first visit abroad since February

Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi will visit the UK abroad for the first time since February, NHK reported.
The visit is scheduled for the first decade of August. It will mainly focus on the signing of a new economic cooperation agreement, the need for which is caused by the UK’s exit from the EU. The parties expect to sign the document before the end of the year. In particular, customs duties on the main article of Japanese exports to the UK – automotive products, and conditions of import of agricultural products from great Britain to Japan will be discussed. Cooperation in the fight against the pandemic of the new coronavirus infection will also be raised. For Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, the last foreign visit was a tour of three Middle Eastern countries in January. Since then, all contacts with foreign leaders and foreign ministers have been held in video conferencing mode.
