Joe Biden was informed of the incident at the Capitol

White House spokesman Jen Psaki said US President Joe Biden was aware of the incident near the Capitol, CNN reports.

According to the Associated Press, a man in a car crashed into two police officers, got out of the car with a knife, and attacked law enforcement officers.

After that, he was shot, and the police were hospitalized – one of them was in serious condition. A little later it became known that the policeman had died.

The Capitol area has been locked down due to security threats. Police closed off streets adjacent to the US Capitol and congressional office buildings. It was also prohibited from entering or exiting any building in the Capitol complex.

After the statement of the chief of the Metropolitan Police, Robert Conti, the restrictions were lifted.

In connection with the report of the death of a police officer, the Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi ordered the flags to be lowered at the Capitol.

Earlier, the head of the Washington police said that the incident at the Capitol was allegedly not related to terrorism.
