A day before Macron’s visit to Lebanon, a petition was set up calling for the return of French rule.
After the explosion in the port of Beirut in Lebanon, a petition was set up calling for the country to be brought back under French control, Al Arabiya reported on Friday, August 7.
It is noted that the petition addressed to French President Emmanuel Macron was published the day before he visited Lebanon.
“Lebanese officials have shown a complete inability to ensure the security and governance of the country. We believe that Lebanon should return to French control in order to establish a smooth and lasting governance,” the petition reads.
More than 60,000 people have already signed the petition.
As you know, France ruled Lebanon from 1923 to 1944. Then Paris handed over power to the Lebanese government.
Recall, during Macron’s visit to Beirut, a crowd of people shouted against the President of Lebanon accusations of terrorism.
Anti-government protests intensified on the night of August 7. During the protests, clashes broke out outside the Lebanese parliament, police fired tear gas and injured several others.
