Lebanese President instructs Mustafa Adib to form government

Lebanese President Michel Aoun has instructed the Ambassador to Germany, Mustafa Adeeb, to form a new government. This was announced on Monday, August 31, the head of the Office of the President Antoine Shuqueir told reporters at the Palace of Baabda. The Lebanese diplomat received the support of 90 of the 128 members of parliament after consultations, Al Jadeed TV reported. As Adeeb noted in his speech to journalists, he expects to form a cabinet in a short time, given the dire situation in Lebanon after the bombing of the port of Beirut.

According to him, the citizens of the country are worried about their present and future, so the authorities do not have time for empty speeches and promises. It was necessary to form a government of Lebanon as soon as possible, he said.

The day before, Aoun called for the abandonment of the religious system of power-building in Lebanon and the turn of it into a secular state. The politician also pledged to call for a dialogue between spiritual authorities and political leaders in order to come to acceptable language in the relevant amendments to the constitution.

The explosion at the port of Beirut in Lebanon, which exacerbated the situation in the country, occurred on 4 August. As a result, more than 150 people were killed and more than 6,000 were injured. According to the preliminary version, the accident occurred due to the fire of 2.7 tons of ammonium nitrate during welding work.
