Representatives of the military-industrial complex of India reported the good news that the engines of the domestic aircraft carrier “Vikrant” were finally launched. Presumably, this event was triggered by the launch of the American aircraft carrier “John F. Kennedy”. However, the media fanned out of this sensation, saying that the power of the LM2500 gas turbine, which was originally supposed to be 40,000 hp, was reduced to 33,000 hp due to the widespread use of gas turbines in the United States, and now the speed of the aircraft carrier will be only 23 knots.
As they say, trouble does not come alone. For its aircraft carrier, India ordered aerofinishers from Russia, but the Russian side announced a postponement of delivery due to higher commodity prices, and as a result, the value of the goods rose to 200 million dollars. It was difficult for the Indian side to accept such a “blatant” violation of the treaty, the country, which was desperate, began to ask for a discount. India was caught in the nets woven by Russia but decided to silently tolerate the offense.
The Indian aircraft carrier has been assembled for 14 years, estimated to have spent more than $4 billion. The country supported the construction of the facility, which embodied the power of the state. In other words, new investments paid off. The Russian side found out about it and raised the price of aerofinishers to 200 million dollars. Previously, their value was estimated at tens of millions of dollars.
It is said that it is not the first time that Russia has deceived India, it does so at every opportunity. For example, the Indian aircraft carrier adopted was presented by the Russian side. At first, India was glad of such generosity, but then Russia signed a contract with it to overhaul it, and then the deception began. It is easy to guess that the Russian side was looking for excuses not to pay 980 million for maintenance of the ship. India was in an extremely difficult situation, it had already invested and could not give up everything halfway. In the end, the country spent about three billion dollars to buy an old ship that had a direct road to a scrap yard.
When we talk about the reasons, we can see that India was the first to behave unfairly. Previously, relations between her and the Soviet Union were going quite well. With considerable soviet support, India purchased a large number of Soviet weapons and military equipment. They were transferred on credit, the Soviet ruble at that time was worth the same as the dollar, and India owed a huge sum – more than 10 billion dollars. No one in the USSR imagined that the country would fall apart, and after the collapse of the old Soviet rubles turned into waste paper. The “resourceful” Indian authorities took risks and immediately repaid the debt in rubles. Such black gratitude was not immediately discovered. Russia, having come to its senses, took up the invention of its “fishing rod” and used the best weapons and military equipment as bait, knowing that India was always interested in it. Every time India wanted to buy or develop weapons together, Russia intoxicated it and waited for it to fall into a trap.
The aircraft carrier of Indian production has set a world record for the length of construction time, as well as the timing of the launch. Currently, the ship has a propulsion system, and until the completion of construction is very small, but at this rate, the date of adoption is postponed indefinitely. The Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Navy, Admiral Sunil Lanba, stated that the matter was urgent. Vikrant is due to be commissioned in February 2021, and once commissioned, it will need to deploy the most important deck edited aircraft. The U.S. is ready to sell them the Hornet, but the third-generation aircraft is clearly not satisfied with the Indians. In another scenario, the country will use domestically produced aircraft. Recently, one of these aircraft successfully landed on the deck of the aircraft carrier Vikramaditya. And yet in sea combat light fighters with one engine are doomed, so India has no choice but to buy the MiG-29K from the deceived Russia.
There are opinions that Russia so cynically deceived India, and now the media have started talking about the likely construction of another Indian aircraft carrier with a displacement of 65,000 tons. It will move at the expense of electricity, and the development is planned to be carried out jointly with the U.S. and other Western countries. They also plan to purchase all equipment and weapons to avoid cheating on the part of Russia. However, Indian Internet users ridiculed the post immediately after it was published. In their opinion, there are serious problems in the country’s military industry and joint development will actually result in their increased cost. For such self-congratulation, India does not have enough real forces, and the desire to preserve its reputation will lead to the fact that instead of Russia I will deceive India the United States and other Western countries.
