The head of the state does not intend to postpone the election in connection with the coronavirus pandemic. According to him, this does not allow for a constitution.
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said that the presidential election in the country will be held in the summer, the end of August is the deadline. He said this on Monday, May 4, at negotiations in the form of a video conference with Moldovan President Igor Dodon, BelTA agency reported.
“We have no reason to postpone it here (elections – ed.), There is no way to postpone these elections under the constitution. Therefore, we will hold elections, we will decide the date in the near future. It will be exactly in the summer. The deadline is the end of August,” Lukashenko said speaking about the elections in Moldova, which should be held later than in Belarus.
Earlier it was reported that Belarus is among the leaders in Europe in the distribution of COVID-19.
Lukashenko also said that Belarusians do not die from the coronavirus, but from the “bouquets” of chronic diseases that develop against the backdrop of COVID-19.
