Vitaly Shklyarov, a political technologist, has left Belarus. It became known today, on October 27.
It is known that on October 24 Alexander Lukashenko and the head of U.S. State Department Mike Pompeo discussed the release of Shklyarov, who has an American passport. Then American representative called for full release and permission for immediate departure from Byelorussia of Shklyarov.
“The Secretary of State called for the full release and immediate exit from Belarus of illegally detained U.S. citizen Vitaly Shklyarov. In addition, Mike Pompeo once again said that the United States supports the aspirations of the Belarusian people for democracy,” the State Department said after the conversation.
Recall that Vitaly Shklyarov is a native of Homel, who lived in the United States. He positions himself as “American, German and Russian political consultant, political technologist, a campaign adviser to Barack Obama, Bernie Sanders, Angels Merkel, Ksenia Sobchak, Dmitry Gudkov”. Shklyarov’s wife is a U.S. citizen and works at the embassy in Kiev. The political technologist himself was detained on July 29 in Gomel in connection with the case of Belarusian blogger Sergei Tikhanovsky. On October 10 Shklyarov was among participants of meeting of Lukashenko with political prisoners in KGB jail. After that, he was released.
