The quarantine regime, which is currently in force in 19 regions of France, will be expanded from April 3 to all regions of the country due to the deteriorating sanitary situation.
This was announced on Wednesday by French President Emmanuel Macron in a televised address to the nation.
“The rules, which were previously introduced in 19 departments of the country, will be extended to the whole of France on Saturday night,” he said. According to Macron, they will operate over the next four weeks.
In addition, the president said that the French authorities will strengthen control of public order to prevent illegal mass gatherings during the period of restrictions in the fight against the spread of infection. “We will not allow individuals to destroy shared achievements. Controls and sanctions will be strengthened to restrict [illegal] gatherings and alcohol consumption, ”he said.
