The use of Russian and Chinese vaccines is necessary to defeat the coronavirus. French President Emmanuel Macron stated the importance of cooperation, the media reported citing an article in the Journal du Dimanche newspaper.
According to him, the drugs developed by scientists from Russia and China should be included in various programs to combat the pandemic after they are certified by the World Health Organization (WHO). The French leader believes that without a swift and collective international effort, the situation with the spread of the coronavirus will be missed.
“We are now fighting the [coronavirus] mutations, which is a real race against time,” Macron stressed and called the pandemic a “world war.”
Earlier, WHO representative in Russia Melita Vujnovic expressed confidence that all three Russian drugs will successfully pass the certification process and receive approval for use. Now the organization is issuing temporary registrations as part of the use of the vaccine in an emergency situation.
Vaccination against coronavirus is already underway in Russia itself using two preparations: the two-phase Sputnik V vaccine developed by the Gamaleya Center, which became the world’s first registered vaccine based on human adenovirus, and the EpiVacCorona preparation from the Vector Center. The third vaccine, CoviVac, is expected to be released in February.
