Macron to attend G7 Summit if all group leaders arrive in the US

The presence of German Chancellor Angela Merkel at the meeting is an important factor, emphasized in the Champs Elysees.

French President Emmanuel Macron said he was ready to come to the United States to participate in the G7 summit, provided that all the leaders of the group countries were present at the event. This was reported on May 30 by France-Presse agency, citing a representative of the Champs Elysees.

As the AFP interlocutor specified, Macron emphasized that “the presence of everyone is necessary for the in-person G7 summit.”

He added that “the presence at the summit of German Chancellor Angela Merkel is an important factor.”

“It is also necessary that this summit be the embodiment of unity and confirmation of actions at the current critical international moment. In this regard, we expect the US presidency to clarify their intentions for us,” the representative of the Champs Elysees emphasized.

Recall, Macron spoke out after Merkel refused to make a trip to the US summit because of the situation with the coronavirus pandemic.

Earlier, White House spokeswoman Kaylee Makinani said that Washington expects to hold a meeting of G7 leaders closer to the end of June in a full-time format
