Maduro claims attempt on his life during a naval invasion

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro announced an attempt on his life during an attempt by mercenaries and terrorists from Colombia to invade the Bolivarian Republic, RIA Novosti reported.

We have the evidence and testimony of a US official … who yesterday showed contracts signed by the Venezuelan opposition to prepare a squad of mercenaries and terrorists to attack Venezuela and attempt to kill me. The central goal was to kill the president of Venezuela. This is a terrorist attack during a pandemic.

The naval invasion of Venezuela occurred on Sunday, May 3. Colombian mercenaries tried to enter the country on speedboats from the state of La Guaira. They intended to carry out a coup, but the invasion was prevented. This was announced by the Minister of Internal Affairs of Venezuela Nestor Reverol.

The chairman of the Venezuelan National Constitutional Assembly, Diosdado Cabello, said that eight attackers were killed and two were detained. According to him, one of the mercenaries was an agent of the US Enforcement Administration.

Maduro claims the invasion was funded and supported by the US and Colombian governments. The Foreign Ministry of Colombia rejected its involvement in the incident.

At the moment, more than 25 thousand Venezuelan troops from the naval, air, and ground forces are participating in the exercises. All of them will be distributed throughout the country to ensure the safety of local residents.
