Irish mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Conor McGregor reacted to the possibility of Russian Khabib Nurmagomedov returning to the sport at a press conference before the UFC 257 tournament.
“Khabib said he doesn’t want to come back because of the promise he made to his mother? We’ll get him, you’ll see. We will get him,” McGregor said. According to the Irishman, Nurmagomedov should be stripped of the championship title and his fight with American Dustin Porier should be the title fight.
On January 16, UFC president Dane White said that Nurmagomedov may return if the UFC 257 tournament participants show outstanding results and make him want to fight again. At the same time, the Russian did not vacate the championship belt. The bouts between McGregor and Porier, as well as Michael Chandler and Dan Hooker on January 24, will not be title fights.
Nurmagomedov announced his career end last October after defeating American Justin Gagee. He attributed his decision to leave the sport to his desire to spend more time with his mother, who does not want him to fight without his father’s supervision.
